He began working hard at the age of just 13. He took up his first job in the hotel industry in 1940 as a dishwasher at the Hotel Perren***. After two winters as a bellboy at the Hotel Post*** in the Arosa ski resort, he completed a service apprenticeship in Crans-Montana. To improve his French, he then worked in Vevey and took language lessons in Estavayer-le-Lac and Martigny.    <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-bottom:15px\">He then spent a season working as a waiter at the Hotel Belv\u00e9d\u00e8re in Davos. On his return to Zermatt, he found a job at the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof as a concierge and bellboy. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-bottom:15px\">As this work was not enough for him, he took over a grocery shop in 1953 with the support of his sisters. To further his ambitions, he eventually began building his own business on the family\u2019s land. Without any financial support or mortgages, he opened the Hotel Bristol in 1959, complete with four restaurants and a skittle alley.  <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-bottom:15px\">In 1960, he married his then secretary, Heidy Perren, who had worked at the hotel after graduating from the Lucerne Hotel Management School. Together, they ran the hotel with great passion and attention to detail. Heidy worked at the hotel every day until her son Francis took over in 2006. The well-being of the guests was of paramount importance to her. After successfully completing his apprenticeship, he graduated from the hotel management school in Siders. Between 1993 and 1999, he gained valuable experience both at home and abroad. On his return to Zermatt, he assisted his father as an executive assistant at the hotel. He was then offered the opportunity to manage the Rothorn and Blauherd mountain restaurants. Among other places, she worked at the Hotel National, the Papperla Pub and the Broken Bar. She eventually met Francis at the Rothorn restaurant \u2013 and the two have been inseparable ever since. In 2003, their son Noel was born; followed by Kevin, Colin, Lian and, in 2014, Malin. Since 2021, their dog Ebba has also been part of the extended family. Josefin supported Francis in the business from the very beginning and was responsible for the hotel\u2019s interior design for many years. As Malin grew older, Josefin increasingly took on tasks in the office and in administration.
